At Newsong, we connect people to Jesus and each other, fostering a community where individuals can belong, grow, and deepen their faith through Sunday gatherings and Life Groups. We believe in activating disciples to live out God’s mission, using our unique gifts in unity to fulfill His vision for us through love in action and shared purpose.
We connect people to Jesus and to each other. Being connected to Jesus is the first step in living a life pleasing to God. We center how we do things with this great purpose in mind. We want people to know that Newsong is a place they can belong in an authentic and meaningful way.
Growth is a sign of life! Making and growing disciples is at the core of every church’s mission. We can mature: know God more intimately, understand His will more clearly, and be strengthened to live for God in an increasing way. We view our Sunday gatherings and Discipleship as an essential part of our shared spiritual formation as we seek to live the Way of Jesus together.
God’s people are people of mission. We become alive when we walk out the plans and purposes that God has for us. So our desire is to move from being active disciples to activated disciples. Love in action is powerful.
We are better, together. We each have gifts and talents that God orchestrates into a loving and powerful body. There are some things that God envisions for us that can only be achieved in our unity.

Kingdom is family. We give many opportunities to serve the family here at Newsong. Through leading small groups, teaching our kids, leading worship, to making people feel at home through Hospitality; all have a part to play in the family!
Newsong exists to bless the people and the place of Lake Norman.

Our Global Partners are:
We are committed to living out the values of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to love God, love others, and share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Our love for God is the fuel for everything we do. We seek to honestly love God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength. All of our other values flow from this value.
God’s written word and his spoken word sets a framework for us and renews us. We do things because the Bible shows us to. We are committed to teaching biblical truth.
God gives direction in prayer. We realize that we are created to depend on the Father and that apart from God, we can do nothing.
Freely we have received the blessings of God, spiritual and practical, so freely we pass on these blessings. We do this best by serving and honoring others inside and outside of our church family.
We are all created for mission, to proclaim and demonstrate the Good News of Jesus in our day-to-day lives, and to consistently lead other people into God-encounters. We desire to bring Jesus to people.
We are better together. The bible describes us as the Body of Christ, God’s family. Our unity is a powerful sign to the world.
The foundation of our beliefs is Jesus Christ. Everything we believe stems from knowing God through His Son. Both the Old and New Testaments point to Jesus as the Messiah and reveal His plan for creation. He is the reason we exist, the goal we aim for, the meaning of life, and our ultimate reward.
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal in power and glory. This triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all.
We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts, and the infallible rule of faith and practice. We are committed to teaching historical, biblical truth.
We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of people, hears and answers prayer, and saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and His visible return to earth.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The Holy Spirit regenerates, sanctifies, and empowers for ministry all who believe in Christ. The Holy Spirit indwells every believer and is an abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all the Biblical gifts of the Spirit. These gifts should be exercised in a loving and orderly way during corporate worship.
We believe that all people are sinners by nature and choice, and therefore under condemnation. God regenerates those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. Jesus Christ baptizes the seeking believer with the Holy Spirit and power for service subsequent to regeneration.
We believe in the universal Church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members.
We believe that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, committed two ordinances to the church: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe in baptism for those who confess and believe in the claims of Jesus, and communion is open to all believers.
We believe in the laying on of hands for the ordination of pastors, elders, and deacons, for praying for the sick, and for the baptism (or release) of the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the personal, visible return of Christ to earth and the establishment of His Kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, and the eternal blessing of the righteous, along with the endless suffering of the wicked.
We believe that God ordained marriage, and that a biblical marriage is between one biological man and one biological woman, in a lifelong, covenantal relationship with Christ at the center of that marriage.
We believe in what is termed “The Apostles’ Creed” as embodying the fundamental facts of Christian faith.
Newsong Church’s story is not your typical church planting path. In August 2004, Jeff and Julie Watson visited the Lake Norman area on the invitation of a longtime friend. They visited for a week, but something about the area grabbed their hearts. The pull was so strong that they came back out two months later to pray in the area. Even though they had no plans to move prior to that, in January 2005 they found themselves leaving life in Southern California behind. A job hunt led them to serve at a Calvary Chapel church in the southwest part of Charlotte. While a sweet time of ministry, it was 35 miles away. One day God made it clear to the Watsons that He had moved them from Orange County to Lake Norman, and He wanted them serving in the Lake Norman area—not 35 miles away.
So, they gave notice and walked into Huntersville Town Hall. They asked where the town needed help, and town agents eventually pointed the Watsons to the Huntington Green trailer park, a neighborhood made up of 300 families, many of which were very broken and marginalized. Jeff and Julie drove into the neighborhood and were totally shocked at the brokenness they saw in the very affluent area of Lake Norman.
The Watsons started a 501c3, Ardent Faith Ministries (AFM), and began by ministering, even though they had no experience in these areas. They started a few initiatives to care for the lost and broken. They took bags of groceries door to door and prayed for people. They coordinated huge community serve days with up to 170 volunteers at a time, blessing the neighborhood. They met many friends who would come over to their home to study the Word and worship. Essentially, they were an outreach and a house church. The group grew too large for the living room, so they started meeting in public venues, moving from a house to a music studio to a public school. Both branches of the ministry were life-changing but grew slowly. AFM joined a network of churches based near London, England, named Christian Growth International, and served with them until 2013.
In 2012, Ardent Faith Ministries moved into its first building, where they didn’t have to set up and tear down. Outreach continued, and inspiring times of worship and study of the Word continued. The ministries grew, but slowly. Then Pastor Jeff received some advice during a coaching session to “focus.” He was advised to either be the pastor of a local church or lead an outreach, but not do both. After a few months of prayer, Jeff decided to put 100% into pastoring a local church. Even though AFM would stay as the umbrella ministry, it was decided to spin off the trailer park outreach as its own 501c3 ministry and give all control and resources over to our ministry partner, Caterpillar Ministries. We also changed the name of the local church expression to Newsong Church. With the focus in place, both ministries exploded in growth and impact. Today, Caterpillar Ministries serves 425 at-risk kids every week.
When Newsong Church moved to another location nearby in January 2016, we tripled in size. In November 2017, Newsong moved into its current location where the church has continued to grow and have a greater impact in the community.
In March of 2025, Pastor Jeff transitioned leadership of Newsong Church to Pastor Daniel. Pastor Jeff is excited about this transition and is confident that Newsong will continue to grow and thrive under Pastor Daniel's leadership. Together, they are committed to seeing Newsong’s mission fulfilled: to continue awakening the Lake Norman region to the love of Jesus!
